Burslem Rally

Today, 19th January 2008, a rally in support of striking Burslem postal workers took place. Postal workers from around the UK attended the rally in a huge show of support for the 12 suspended Postmen and the 100 striking Postal workers.

The strike action was called after 12 Royal Mail employees were suspended for 'alleged' harassment. Though with further investigation it would seem the source of harassment within the office is from the local management.

The support for the 2007 was overwhelming. The strike action along with staff 'doing the job properly' by withdrawing from working practices such as turning up to work early (working for FREE) and taking short cuts such as taking out over weight bags and not taking their breaks, built up a huge backlog of mail. The strike was caused by senior management within Royal Mail refusing to negotiate on Pay, conditions and change of working practices. The Postal workers were successful in their campaign and achieved their aim of gaining a negotiated Pay rise and agreement to negotiate on future changes within the industry. None of these would have been achievable without the efforts of the members of the Communication Workers Union.

Introduction to cwutube

In 2007 Royal Mail employees who were members of the Communication Workers Union in the UK took part in the first Postal strike for over ten years.

Along with the obvious strike action there were many postal workers taking their dispute into cyberspace.

For many years Union members have complained that their views are not well represented in the media. However with the advent of web 2.0 and the increasing ease of uploading content onto the web union members are now using the internet to get their views across. The aim of this site is to get as many CWU related videos linked from here as I can. If you know of a video that's not on here please post a link.
